Large public events will usually require a number of permits. This means the zoning department, the health department, the recreation department, and on and on. Plan ahead and keep notes on the names of people you talked to, their extension numbers, and when you talked to them. It's much easier to work with the same person in a department all the way through the process than to keep trying to explain 20 times what you are trying to do. Make sure you thank them or send a little note to their supervisors when you are done. It will help them remember you and help you next year when you have to go through it again!
